Equity Mine

Scope of Services:

Site specific testing of treated and untreated acid rock drainage was completed in two separate experiments in 1989 - 1992 using an in situ stream mesocosm. Testing showed the actual degree of impact from acid rock drainage and that treatment using lime was highly effective in protecting downstream ecosystems. The work was one of the first comprehensive tests of ARD done anywhere. It was published in an international scientific journal and remains well cited in related literature. As part of environmental effects monitoring that is required at the Equity Mine, monitoring of stream condition has been ongoing every 4 years since 1994. Limnotek has completed all of this stream condition work with latest monitoring completed in 2006.

Relevance of the Project:

ARD testing and EEM monitoring is the key criteria used in managing water quality in drainage from this closed mine.
