Testing Benefits of Re-Vegetation in Revelstoke Reach of Upper Arrow Reservoir

Scope of Services:

Limnotek designed and conducted an experiment to examine the effect of submerged, planted vegetation on algae, invertebrates, and fish in the drawdown zone of Revelstoke Reach in the Arrow Lakes Reservoir. Vegetation establishment increased the biomass of benthic invertebrates by two to four times over that found in barren soils. The plant-benthos link was mediated by food supplied from an epiphytic biofilm. There was no link between the plant – benthos association and sport fish catch rates.

Relevance of the Project:

Contributed information on benefits of planting in drawdown zones in addition to dust control.
