Environmental monitoring and bioassessment

Environmental monitoring and bioassessment is the sampling of physical, chemical, and biological attributes in an aquatic ecosystem for comparison of measurements to standards or known reference conditions. This type of monitoring is completed by Limnotek on behalf of clients to meet permit requirements. Standards can be water quality standards as defined on a site specific basis or as listed in water quality guidelines that are published by government agencies. Limnotek is involved in research to set reference conditions using bio-assessment that is more sensitive to chemical change than is water quality data alone. Those reference conditions can be site-specific or region-wide. That research includes setting site specific water quality guidelines using experiments and the development of bioassessment models of reference conditions. These research activities are in addition to standard monitoring of aquatic environments to compare measurements to standards.
